After being in horrible situations involving shifters, Brice has a very real fear of them. Even though his best friend Vee is mated to a Wolf shifter, who treats him like a prince, and Brice is a protected member of the Stone Ridge pack. Cognizant of his terrors they treat him accordingly. So when he is taken against his will while out clubbing - his savior, though just as big and intimidating as his captors, there's still something different & amazing about this man. Why does he feel Safe in his arms? All he wanted is a simple Hookup and it seems that it is all he's going to get, with this big gorgeous out of towner who rescues him. Why does that make him upset?Valarius never expected to encounter his mate - Human mate under such unusual circumstances. Then just when he's ready to claim his sweet young man and reveal his shifter status he is warned not to do so because of Brice's aversion to shifters. Damn#t! But to win his mate, "Val" is willing to do whatever is necessary especially after receiving some sweet kisses, tender moments, and thunderous passion. Too bad not everyone is on the same page as he is.
What I really liked about this book is that there are so many old characters and new ones introduced or reintroduced. Since I've been jumping around the Stone Ridge series over the past several days. The storylines of these various characters intrigue me and I am looking forward to going back to some of the earlier books in the series to read how they found their mates. Or were rescued.
Initially I meant to go back to the first in the series 're-reading and going right through to the most recently released. But I am having more fun this way. I've already read several of the books in this series, as well as many of Charlie Richards three other paranormal books so I am familiar with quite a few of the characters. It would be more confusing for someone who isn't as familiar as I am. All I know is that I am having a good time enjoying these stories. Ms. Richards really has a great imagination!
I have her nonshifter books in my Kindle Cloud awaiting my wanting to read contemporary stories again. Until then thanks Charlie.

liked this story, shows the human side to things good and bad. even when their part animal there can be love between races.
This latest book from Charlie Richards is a very nice addition to the Stone Ridge series. Here, a couple of characters previously introduced in other stories are given the focus as they discover each other to be mates. Valarius is a lion shifter attending a conference that has the focus of what to do about the government discovering there are shifters. Brice is a human who was previously abducted by wolf shifters and doesn't have the greatest feelings towards them because of the experience. The two meet at a club when Valarius steps in to save Brice from some thugs, and the sparks begin to fly. When Valarius finds out that Brice is shifter-shy, he has to decide how to go about breaking the news to him. Should he wait for Brice to fall in love with him first? Should he just be open and honest? Valarius tries to deal with this while members of his previous pack try to kill him because of old grudges.
The characters are very nice here. A good amount of attention is given to both Val and Brice, and they are well developed. The story has an ample amount of action and suspense, and a nice amount of sexy romance too. The pacing is well enough, and the story easily flows. There's also ample appearances from other existing characters in the series. All in all, it's a good story and a good addition to the series.
This series just keeps going and going! I liked this one, I've liked most of them, not too deep, not too long, just enough drama to keep me interested, and some good fun sex.
Valarius is strong and sexy, as you would expect a lion shifter to be. Brice is somewhat damaged, but very sweet. Valarius helps him out, then gets him in the middle of some shifter drama, it all works out, and we get a happy ending.
If you liked the other books in the series you'll like this one as well.
I have been waiting for Brice to get his story and what a story it is. Shifters need to have more get-togethers because someone always finds thier mate. Vincent Dobs Marché met his mate at an enforcers get-together and now Valarius, a lion shifter, meets his mate at another shifters get-together. I am very pleased with this pairing because after the way Brice was scared and traumatised, I think a strong, yet tender, lion shifter is just what he needs to heals his internal/mental wounds. I admit that I expected Brice to put up more of a fight when he discovered Valarius was a shifter as he's trying to stay away from that world, but like Miach and Raven have shown us, you just can't beat that mate-pull. hahaha. And speaking of Raven, it was good to see one of my favourite characters and his Arctic Fox again. Just Lion Around is well-written, has a good amount of sex and oozes suspense, drama and action. I think I might have to bump one of my top 5, which are Werewolf at the Zoo, Loving the Enemy, Casey's Love Bite, Kyle's Valiant Hunt and Soldier of Fortune's Downfall to put this one in. I highly recommend Just Lion Around. It's a great addition to a great series.
